Epiphany, Random thoughts at random times. Really!?

Today I found myself with a thought.  An epiphany if you will.  So, I ran to my underused blog and reacquainted myself.  What I found is that I have not written an article (published) for the entire year of 2016, other than the one I published on January 17, 2016.

What does this mean?

Why am I so inclined of thought in the middle of January two years running?  Are my thoughts truly random, or is a pattern underlying, and waiting to be recognized?

The outcome remains to be seen.

Do we now invent HISTORY?

the_history_channel_demotivator_by_party9999999-d5jtuxaI found the title image above while online using a google search “History Channel Parody”.  So I think it is clear that others are getting the message as well.

I’ve often heard that people question why “The History Channel” does not show much “history” content anymore.

I think that people forget that a channel like “The History Channel” is a business first and foremost, but if they’re true to their name, they will try to deliver what they suggest by title that they will deliver.

By having a variety of “Reality Shows”, the History Channel is actually delivering on it’s promise of “history”. We’re witnessing it first hand.  We watch the present as a show.

The question that comes to my mind, is how accurate of present day “history” are the shows?

Are they scripted?

Do they have some other self serving purpose of “The History Channel”?

Are they detailed and authentic recordings of a tiny slice of “Humanity’s History”?

My epiphany moment came when I realized that “The History Channel” is literally creating a historical account of humanity, and the way of life we live in this ‘snapshot’ of time.

What does this mean?  Do we even care? Who cares?

I think that the question that each of us must both, ask and answer,  is.

What is our message to the future?

Hear No Evil,

Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil

Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil . . .

What does it mean? To you?  Here are a couple of ways that I can think of, what about you?  What version do you use?

No one shall hear of your deeds, nor look for your deeds, if you yourself,  remain silent regarding your deeds?

Don’t listen to gossip, nor tend to other peoples affairs, nor speak of others affairs.

You are your best DIY project

Last night while watching TV,  I noticed a commercial from “Cigna” the insurance company.  The commercial was not selling anything except for healthy living.  Encouraging people to exercise and take an interest in themselves for a change.  The commercial never said “Get off your ass and exercise”,   It would seem that someone has come up with the concept that an insurance company can actually make more money by encouraging people to take their life, their mental and physical well being into their own hands instead of running to a doctor for a pill.

Through a series of motivational images and a robust website Cigna is encouraging people to stay active live a better life, and love themselves.  With areas of the site dedicated to health, food, and fitness I think it’s a positive way for Cigna to try and decrease it’s health care costs by getting it’s insured to feel better about themselves.

With all the commercials out there selling something that you really don’t need, it’s nice to see a company try to make money by asking you to look at yourself, and improve your life instead of waiting for someone else to do it.

I wonder how long before a fitness guru gets sponsored by an insurance company, and they start giving away products like “Hip Hop Abs” or “P90X” as a way to offset and reduce the cost of healthcare.

Am I missing something?  Have I fell for the bait?  I’d be interested to know if anyone else has thoughts on the topic.

Has facebook turned us all into life bloggers?

Just a few years ago the only people who were posting photos and documenting details of a life were people who thought they could make some money ‘travel writing’ for a blog site.  Now it seems everyone is quite happy in posting little details about their life’s little ups and downs. We’ve somehow turned our lives into a “TV channel” that represents our actual lives, and the events they contain.

It seems to work like this. Your friends are your different channels. The facebook news feed is where you browse the channels for anything that looks interesting. Each of us are in fact a channel for someone else to enjoy.

As for myself, I think my channel may be considered by some to be an acquired taste.

When you look back at your life In 10 years what will your channel look like?

I’d appreciate your thoughts and feedback on the topic.  It seems that facebook has become love hate for some people.  I’ve several friends who despise facebook and refuse to post.

I am of the opinion that in the future we’ll scroll through facebook like we used to thumb through a family album to remember the events of our life.

Google Glass

My latest toy is Glass.

Last year I had filled out the request, and wrote a little something about what I would do if I had glass.

I forgot about my “application” to buy the Google Glass.  I did not get “selected” for the first generation of glass, but I’ve had a chance to get my hands on one of the second generation units.

What can I say, I’m a camera nerd.

The Drive was sort of my Christmas present to myself.  Could have bought an Xbox One, but instead bought a NAS drive.  🙂

First Thoughts, Wow! What a cool box.  I broke down and purchased two 4TB drives to start it off with.  I picked them up at the local Tiger Direct.  Originally I only intended to get a couple of regular drives, but for 20 bucks more (each) I picked up some “NAS” drives.  Cost me about $400.00 for the drives.

After that I copied some files of an external Seagate GoFlex Desktop drive and then I cannibalized it so I could stick the 3 TB drive into my Drobo.  So I’ve now got a total of 11TB of actual disk space inserted.  About 7 TB of drive space is available to me so far.

Below are some screenshots of the Drobo’s Dashboard:
